Incredible Incredibox

Incredibox is a music-maker where you can make your own music on a computer.
You see seven cartoon men, all lined up waiting to be chosen. There are different colored hats, glasses and masks that you can choose to dress each man in a whole outfit. Each outfit has a sound or a beat.
When all seven men are dressed, it makes a song!

When you go to the website, at the top you press on DEMO, which takes you to the seven different modes. Each mode has all different sounds, no mode is the same. My personal favorite is 'The Love'.

I find making music makes me feel calm and excited! I try to make the same sounds as the Incredibox men - my mum sometimes gets annoyed by "irritating repetitive noises!" but we both like the finished songs. My mum wonders if I should be a DJ and mix lots of songs together.

  1. What a fun way to relax during lockdown, Wiremu. It reminds me of the activity that was on Google the other day that used Oskar Fischinger's concept of making music by using visual animations of patterns to represent different sounds. As well as DJing, maybe composing music digitally for films is something you'd like to investigate. There's a link to the Google activity after my comment. It might be worth using some headphones to try it out so you help your mum relax too! https://www.google.com/logos/doodles/2017/fischinger/fischinger17.9.html?hl=en

  2. Sounds like your mum could be onto something there Wiremu! I know a lot of people who are DJs or work in the music industry. You obviously enjoy it and it's great to hear that it makes you feel so good! Music does that for me as well. Can always count on some music to help lift your spirits. How'd you come across Incredibox? The way you described it makes me want to try it out!

  3. I love Incredibox too Wiremu. Maybe headphones would be a good investment so you mum isn't always hearing the work in progress. My old class once did Incredibox live without Chromebooks. They each made a noise and a leader pointed at them to tell them when to start or stop. Maybe you could try that?

    1. The live Incredibox is a cool idea, Phil! Would you like to try that in one of our class meetings, Wiremu?

  4. Hi Wiremu, Incredibox sounds like a great computer program! I've not heard of it, but am now very curious and keen to do some investigating. I enjoy music and think that putting sounds together, in a way that creates a great sound, would be very satisfying. My son in law is a very good musician and I'm sure he would find it a very satisfying way to relax and get those creative juices flowing. I can quite imagine that during the process of experimenting and trying sounds together, it could be some what annoying for your mum, listening to sounds repeating over and over but it's great that she can enjoy the finished product. How many different arrangements have you made so far? How long does each take to complete one?
    Keep up the good work.

  5. Wow Wiremu, I've never heard of this before you introduced it to me and I LOVE the sound of it. After I've finished my blog commenting today, I'm going to go and experiment.
Are you able to record the compositions? I'd really like to hear what you have created. How is this way of composing comparable with how we composed music in class during Term One?
Thanks for sharing this wonderful learning, and keep up with the fabulous blogging!
